The Bhamashah Card Scheme is a government-run initiative in the Indian state of Rajasthan aimed at providing financial and social empowerment to women. The scheme was launched in 2014 and is considered one of the most successful and innovative schemes in India.
Under the Bhamashah Card Scheme, each female member of a household is given a unique card which carries her name, photograph, and bank details. This card acts as a financial tool for women, providing them with access to various government and financial benefits such as pension schemes, health insurance, and direct benefit transfers. The card is linked to the woman’s bank account, ensuring that the benefits are directly credited to her account.
The implementation of the Bhamashah Card Scheme has been highly successful in Rajasthan, with over 50 million women having received the cards so far. The scheme has significantly improved the financial status of women and has encouraged them to be more active participants in the family and the community. The government is also using the scheme as a platform to implement various other social welfare schemes, ensuring that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
